They are appearing at many playgrounds. Rubber chips that cover the ground to protect kids from the hard ground. But are they safe? These chips are also found inside synthetic turf, which covers an increasing number of fields in Fairfax County (like Patriot Field off Braddock Road). Some groups believe these teensy little chips of recycled rubber could present a health hazard. But no certain conclusions have been revealed.
