Even during pregnancy anxiety and depression can impact expectant mothers. This is known as Perinatal Anxiety and can include panic attacks, compulsive behavior, habits of thinking and behaving that form a vicious cycle. While the condition is relatively common — even more common than Postpartum Depression — many women avoid treatment, which is not the best thing for mom, baby, and the family. There may be a way to help. A new study at UNC is tracking the success of cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) to help parents suffering from Perinatal Anxiety.
